Let's Talk

Small Conversations Drive Big Results.

Many leaders believe meaningful change requires a major initiative.

In reality, it often begins with one consistent habit.

When I started working with Dr. Ben Tolley, leadership check-ins weren't part of his regular routine. Like many dentists, he had good intentions but a busy schedule.

Instead of trying to change everything at once, we focused on one manageable step.

He began scheduling 20 to 30-minute one-on-one conversations with each team member.

He also created a simple daily habit with his office manager.

Each day, she sent him one "win."

Sometimes it was about an assistant helping schedule the next phase of treatment before a patient left the operatory.

Sometimes it was recognizing a team member becoming more confident with new technology.

Sometimes it was celebrating results.

One daily update shared that follow-up calls had led to nearly $19,000 in scheduled treatment in two weeks.

These conversations weren't about numbers alone.

They were about paying attention to progress.

Recognizing effort.

Celebrating success.

Creating accountability.

As Dr. Tolley reflected on the experience, he admitted:

"I should have listened... Check-ins, you got me."

That statement wasn't about adding another meeting to his calendar.

It was about realizing that intentional leadership creates momentum.

Coaching Tip

Celebrate progress as often as you solve problems.

When leaders consistently recognize what's going well, teams become more engaged, confident, and motivated to continue improving.

Your Leadership Challenge

This week, don't wait until something goes wrong.

Reach out to one team member and ask:

"What's one win you've had this week?"

You may be surprised by what you learn.
